The magic of writing

There are moments when reading that you recognise an author's talent and you think: "I see you are good, and I want to be like that!"

Hey!

Have you read a book that has made you want to be a better writer?

If you have read any of my other posts, you will know that I am a big fan of the Fantasy genre. Just as I am used to reading about magic, there is also magic to the writing. For me, when I first picked up early Fantasy books when I was younger, I saw the power writing had.

With words, you can make people feel things. It sounds like an odd comment to make, but it is a magic that is so powerful -- one that I had to learn. Whilst I am still trying, I believe that this is attainable.

I want to create characters that a reader connects with, and I want to make them cry. Not in a menacing way, but that is the one sure factor that I can rely on to see that I have reached a reader.

For you, was there a book that made you want to write? Was there a book that made you want to be a better writer?

Whilst people talk about inspiration found in your own life, sometimes we brush over the effect that other novels can have. Not just in general ideas, but in the sense of acting as a way of motivation. There are moments when reading that you recognise an author's talent and you think:

"I see you are good, and I want to be like that!"

Reading, for me, is that sense of desire. I want to be better -- as good as these others. It gets difficult to not compare yourself and feel disheartened, but you just have to look at it as a goal to strive towards instead, even though sometimes this is easier said than done.

That's all from me today,
Fin :)
